Choral counting is a powerful, easy-to-implement routine that provides multiple access points for learners, while building number sense and encouraging mathematical thinking. Michelle will demonstrate how choral counting can come to life in the classroom and explore its versatility across K-12 grade levels.

Michelle Chu
SD41 Elementary Mathematics
Michelle Chu is a dynamic Grade 7, Late French Immersion teacher in Burnaby who discovered the joy of exploring the “why” behind mathematics. Passionate about evolving her practice and professional development, she transforms math education through chats and outcomes-based instruction.
Cuisenaire rods have been used in mathematics classrooms around the world for over 70 years and continue to spark curiosity and sense-making in students of all ages. Susan Robinson will share her love of this math manipulative through an exploration of how Cuisenaire rods can be used to support student thinking from Kindergarten through to high school.

Susan Robinson
SD64 Numeracy Coordinator
Susan Robinson, who earned a Masters in Arts Education from SFU, thrives amid the vibrant chaos of teenage life by guiding them from confusion to understanding while seamlessly blending creativity into her mathematics classes and artistic pursuits.
Notice and Wonder invites curiosity, conversation, and mathematical thinking. By pausing to look closely and ask questions, students develop habits of mind that support deeper reasoning and build meaningful connections. Kevin will share how this routine helps teachers welcome all learners into math by centering student voice as the starting point for deep mathematical thinking.

Kevin Dent
SD23 Instructional Leadership
Kevin Dent, a dedicated mathematics advocate on SD23’s Instructional Leadership Team alongside central Okanagan educators, inspires confidence by exploring how people solve problems while fervently championing numeracy, inquiry, community, and assessment throughout his middle years teaching career.
Reexamining a classic topic within numeracy, divisibility, Darcy reminds you that math has always been a human story. Walk alongside ancient minds and return to a time when numbers answered life’s most pressing need: how to make sense of the skies. See how the simple act of dividing led to profound insights — into primes, time, and the rhythms of the cosmos.

Darcy House
